The Seacoast Garden Club is hosting an open meeting on Monday, Nov. 13 at the Community House, 8 Temple St., Kennebunkport. Coffee, tea and refreshments will be served at 9:30 a.m., followed by a short business meeting before the program, Hydrangeas of the Northeast, led by Cheryl Monroe.

Author of a blog, “Garden in the Burrow,” Monroe is a master gardener who specializes in horticultural design. Her presentation will include tips about planting, growing and pruning hydrangeas. She will answer the age-old poser: Why won’t my hydrangeas bloom? She will also cover zone/climate for the best bloomers, native selections, hydrangeas for sun, shade and in-between, plus container and small-space gardening.

This is the only open meeting during the year of the Seacoast Garden Club, which draws members from Kennebunkport, Kennebunk Beach, Arundel, Wells, Biddeford, Sanford, Cape Porpoise and Exeter, New Hampshire. The club meets once a month from October through May, and the 2023-24 programs focus on edible landscaping, growing dahlias, sustainable mushroom cultivation and creating a personal garden retreat.

For more information about the open meeting and joining the Seacoast Garden Club, contact Membership Chairmen Diane Israelson (disrlsn@yahoo.com) and/or Susan Joakim (susanjoakim@gmail.com).
