DENVER — Seattle Kraken forward Jordan Eberle will miss Thursday’s game at Colorado after suffering a cut to his leg from a skate blade during practice.

Kraken Coach Dave Hakstol said after the morning skate Thursday at Ball Arena that Eberle was “day-to-day right now as we go forward.” Eberle arrived at the rink with his teammates.

Eberle suffered the cut during a practice on Wednesday. Seattle General Manager Ron Francis told The Seattle Times that Eberle suffered a cut near his quad muscle and had an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.

Hakstol said Eberle underwent the procedure “to make sure that they went through and discovered everything that was going on with him.

“He’s doing well today,” Eberle said. He won’t play tonight.”

The injury to Eberle comes with skate cuts in the spotlight after former NHL player Adam Johnson died last month after his neck was cut by a skate blade during a game in England.

Bruins forward Jakub Lauko was cut in the face by a skate blade more than two weeks ago and hasn’t played since. When he returns, he plans to wear a neck guard and wrist guards.

Eberle has one goal and three assists in 13 games this season, his third with Seattle. His injury prompted the Kraken to call up top prospects Shane Wright and Ryan Winterton from Coachella Valley of the AHL. Wright was Seattle’s first-round pick in 2022 and Winterton was a third-round pick in 2021. Wright appeared in eight games last season for Seattle, while Winterton is playing in his first season above juniors.

Winterton said his parents are flying in from Toronto to be in the stands for his NHL debut.

“It’s been kind of crazy, honestly. Just kind of living out my childhood dream, which is kind of surreal,” Winterton said. “I don’t think it’s hit me yet, but it’s definitely cool to be here. It’s cool to get the call.”

PENGUINS: Pittsburgh goalie Tristan Jarry is day-to-day because of swelling around his right eye.

Jarry was cut in a collision with Anaheim Ducks forward Adam Henrique in the second period of a 2-0 win on Tuesday.

Penguins Coach Mike Sullivan said additional testing on Jarry ruled out a possible concussion.

“The only challenge is his eye’s closed with the swelling, so he’s got a little bit of limited vision with just the swelling in his eye,” Sullivan said Thursday. “When that goes down, I think he’ll be good to go.”

Jarry is 4-5-0 with a 2.51 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage in nine games this season.

THURSDAY’S GAMES

RANGERS 4, WILD 1: Alexis Lafreniere scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period and added two assists, Louis Domingue made 26 saves in his first NHL game in nearly 18 months, and New York won at home.

Vincent Trocheck also had a goal and two assists, Artemi Panarin had a goal and an assist, and Blake Wheeler also scored as the Rangers won for the eighth time in nine games. Their only loss in that stretch was a shootout defeat at Minnesota last Saturday.

BLACKHAWKS 5, LIGHTNING 3: Top draft pick Connor Bedard had his first multi-point game with two goals and two assists as Chicago snapped an eight-game losing streak with a win in Tampa, Florida.

Bedard, 18, powered Chicago to its first win over the Lightning since a 4-3 shootout victory on March 5, 2021.
