YARMOUTH – Phyllis I. (Jordan) Turner, 98, died on May 14, 2024, in Yarmouth. Phyllis was born on Jan. 19, 1926, in Portland, daughter of the late James and Loretta (LaPierre) Jordan.

Phyllis grew up at the foot of Munjoy Hill, on the corner of Washington Avenue and Cumberland Avenue. Every Sunday, she and her family would walk together to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for Mass. She attended Portland High School and later the Portland School of Art; here she earned her bachelor’s degree later in life in recognition for her life work as an artist. It was at Art School that she met her husband, Edwin, after his military service. They married and began their family in New York City, N.Y., where they both worked in the art industry. Despite moving back to Maine to be closer to family, Phyllis remained very close to her dear friends in Carmel, N.Y.

Phyllis worked for Downeast Novelties, now known as Cape Shore in Yarmouth, as a painter and designer. She was incredibly creative, enjoying sewing, crafts, DIY projects, and cooking. She had a particular love for wall clocks, especially those with animal themes, amassing quite a collection. As a loving grandmother, she was affectionately known as “GT” (Grammy Turner) by her grandchildren. Her beloved cat, MeKo, will miss her dearly.

Phyllis was predeceased by her sister, Doris Ferguson; son-in-law, John Drown; and former husband, Edwin C. Turner.

She is survived by her children, Norman and wife Laurie Turner, Mark and wife Suzanne, Bonnie and husband Jim Green, and Nancy Drown and long-time companion Dave Jones; grandchildren, Sarah and husband Gary Craig, Kristin and husband Frank Noyes, Adam Turner and fiancé Nancy Snodgrass, Abigail and husband Jason Wipf, Rebekah Green and partner Melissa Turner, Nathaniel Green and fiancé Kirby Kelly, Eliana Green, Jonathan and wife Christine Drown, and Katelyn and husband Jamie O’Leary; great-grandchildren, Logan, Zachary, Eli, Elijah, Emily, Genevieve, and Holly; special niece, Patrica LaPerrier and nephew, James Ferguson; special friends Shirley Stowell and Thelma Gaudet.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to neighbors who were always there for Phyllis: Sarah, John, and Mandy.

Family and friends are invited visit at 9 a.m. on June 14, at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. with a burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
