As the daughter of a WWII veteran, the wife of a Vietnam veteran, the four times great-granddaughter of a Revolutionary War minuteman (who also fought in the French and Indian Wars), and a great-niece of a soldier who was killed in the Civil War, I ask why you did not put any mention of the 80th anniversary of the battle of Normandy on the front page of the Portland Press Herald? An iconic picture of those brave young men who stormed that beach that day — only to end in their immediate death — would have been an honorable remembrance to the veterans who survived and/or died that day, as well as a short history lesson to the young generations of today, many of whom might not have a clue as to what D-Day represents.
