People gather outside Longfellow Elementary School in Portland for a lighting ceremony of a light sculpture which artist Pandora LaCasse made with the help of Longfellow students. The sculptures are similar to those LaCasse created, and that hang during the holidays in downtown Portland and Deering Oaks Park. The project was proposed by Longfellow third grader, and the artist’s granddaughter, Evelyn LaCasse to art teacher Emily Serway. Serway wrote a grant last spring and th project was funded by the Perloff Family Foundation. (Photo by Carl D. Walsh/Staff Photographer)
