AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Ian Hart singled home Jake Bullick in the bottom of the eighth to give Pittsburgh-Greensburg a 3-2 win over St. Joseph’s on Monday.

The Monks (2-1), trailing 2-0 after seven innings, tied the game in the top of the eighth. Max McComb reached on an error and went to third on Taylor Black’s single. Jameson Collins scored McComb with a sacrifice fly and Black scored on Dennis Meehan’s single to tie the game.

St. Joseph’s missed an opportunity to tie the game in the top of the ninth after Noah McDaniel led off with a single. Pinch-runner Ben Gravel advanced to second on Chris Gerossie’s sacrifice bunt but was stranded.

Black and Brett Barbati each had two of the six hits by the Monks.

MEN’S LACROSSE

USM 17, MAINE MARITIME 6: Jeff Urmston scored four goals and Keegan Smith had two goals and five assists to lead Southern Maine (1-1) to a nonconference victory over the Mariners (0-2) at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland.

Seth Wing added two goals and one assist and Bryce Randall, Paul Leonardo and John Bossi scored two goals apiece. Nate Delgiuduce, Tristan Dundas and Sam Hornblower also scored for the Huskies.

Wing and Smith became the fifth and sixth players in the 17-year history of the USM program with 100 or more career points.

Zachary Doucette led Maine Maritime with three goals. Alex Grant-Roy had two goals and one assist, and Andrew Waltz notched the other MMA goal.

Huskies goalies Zach Bessette and Alex Leblanc combined for 18 saves.

MMA’s Daniel Lee and John Stolz combined for 10 saves.

SOFTBALL

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEPT: Natalie Fabrizio tripled home Kristin Gallagher as WPI (3-0) scored twice in the top of the seventh for a 7-5 win in the first game at Kissimmee, Florida.

St. Joseph’s had tied the game 5-5 with a three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth behind RBI singles by Kaylee Burns and Libby Pomerleau and a run-scoring fielder’s choice by Madisyn Charest.

Melodie Bailey scored two runs for St. Joe’s, and Meghan Elliott and Jennifer Murphy each had a single and a double.

In the second game, an 11-6 Thiel win, Vanessa Falce lined a two-run double as Thiel (2-2) scored three times to break a 4-4 tie in the second inning.

Bailey, Mariah Harrison and Kelsy Gaddy each had two hits for St. Joseph’s (1-3).

Harrison and Danielle Pinkham also had two RBI apiece and Bailey had an RBI and a run scored.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

POLL: Kansas (28-3) is the top-ranked team in the country for the second week in a row. The Jayhawks (29-3) are followed by Villanova (28-3), UCLA (28-3), Gonzaga (30-1) and Oregon (27-4). The season’s final poll will be released March 13. The Atlantic Coast Conference continues to lead with six ranked teams.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

(17) DEPAUL 59, ST. JOHN’S 41: Jessica January hit three 3-pointers and finished with 20 points in the semifinals of the Big East Conference Tournament at Milwaukee.

January, the preseason Big East Player of the Year who missed 15 games with a broken finger before returning on Feb. 24, was the only DePaul (26-6) player to score in double figures.

The top-seeded Blue Demons will face No. 3 seed Marquette in the finals on Tuesday.

POLL: UConn continues its run at No. 1 and Creighton is ranked for the first time in 25 years.

The Huskies (32-0), who have been No. 1 for 14 straight weeks, have won 107 straight after Monday’s win over South Florida.

Creighton entered the poll at No. 23, marking its first appearance in the Top 25 since the final three weeks of the 1992 season. The Bluejays have won 19 of their last 21 games, with both losses coming against No. 17 DePaul.

Baylor, Notre Dame, South Carolina and Maryland follow UConn in the top five.
