Maine business among 3 winners of $4,000 grant
The National Association for the Self-Employed, a leading advocate and resource for the self-employed and micro-business community, has awarded the Maine-based small business Innovative Business Services a 2017 first-quarter Growth Grant.
Maine’s Innovative Business Services is one of three winners of NASE’s grants and will receive $4,000 to help grow and expand its business operations.

No-shave event supports effort to end sex assault
This month, the members of 13 York County law enforcement agencies will participate in a “Beards for Bucks: Razor-less for a Reason” campaign to benefit the Children’s Advocacy Center of York County.
Law enforcement agencies representing police departments from Berwick, Buxton, Eliot, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Kittery, North Berwick, Ogunquit, Old Orchard Beach Saco, South Berwick, Wells and York will abstain from shaving and instead grow beards, mustaches and goatees. The effort is a way to support a program of the Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine.

Grant will help museum restore wedge-style plow
The Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. & Museum has been awarded a $1,700 Heritage Grant from the Amherst Railway Society for its Bridgton and Saco River Railroad Snowplow No. 2 restoration project.
The wedge-style snowplow built in 1900 was used for snow removal on single-line railroad tracks. The cost of the restoration is about $10,000.
Harvard Pilgrim awards $500 grants to nonprofits
The Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation has given five Maine nonprofits $500 each through its Community Spirit 9/11 Mini-Grant program.
Those agencies include Portland Trails of Portland, Lucky Pup Rescue of Kennebunkport, OHI Maine of Hermon, the Maine Coast Waldorf School of Freeport and the Maine Cancer Foundation of Falmouth.
