Southern Maine Health Care announced it hired four physicians.
Heather Schwemm, M.D., specializes in internal medicine. Schwemm completed her residency at Maine Medical Center and is practicing at SMHC Internal Medicine in Kennebunk.

 

 

Anna Scopellito-Olsen, M.D., specializes in internal medicine and pediatrics. She completed her residencies at Staten Island University Hospital and is practicing at SMHC Family Medicine in Sanford.

Christopher Blomberg, D.O., specializes in cardiovascular disease. Blomberg completed his residency and fellowship training at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center and is practicing at SMHC Cardiology in Biddeford at 9 Healthcare Drive and in Sanford at 25A June St.

 

 

Lily Conover, M.D., specializes in obstetrics and gynecology. She completed her residency at Maine Medical Center. Conover is practicing at SMHC Women’s Health located at 9 Healthcare Drive in Biddeford.

Mount Desert Island Hospital hired Katherine Gassman, D.O., to its Lisa Stewart Women’s Health Center and Cadillac Family Practice.
Gassman is a board-certified family medicine physician specializing in both family medicine and obstetrics. She attended medical school in Maine at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.

 

BOARD APPOINTMENTS
MaineHealth reappointed George Isaacson to its board of trustees.
Isaacson previously served on the board from 2003 to 2015, including a stint as chairman from 2013 to 2015. He will also serve on the board’s strategic planning committee.

 

Southern Maine Health Care announced four new members have joined its board of trustees: Cynthia Hall Domine, Philip Kowash, M.D., John Mills and Thomas Zuke, CPA.
Domine is president of Synchronicity, a boutique licensing agency. She lives in Kennebunkport.

Kowash has been a family medicine physician for nearly 20 years. He lives in Saco.

 

 

Mills is president of SOE, a consulting firm specializing in the retail sector, store operations and growth strategies. He lives in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and Kennebunk.

Zuke, of Saco, is executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of Kennebunk Savings Bank.

 

 

AWARDS and RECOGNITIONS
The federal government awarded Mercy Hospital its highest possible quality rating of five stars, making it one of only five hospitals in Maine to receive this designation from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.
The ratings are based on nearly 60 quality measures spanning everything from patient experience to the value and outcomes of services provided.

GENERAL
St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center announced that New England Foot and Ankle Specialists is joining their Center for Orthopaedics.
Foot and ankle specialist Gregory Pomeroy, M.D., is joining the St. Mary’s team. He will be joined by doctors Jessica Faught and Lanny Rudner, along with current staff members.
