STORRS, Conn. – Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis scored 21 points while Kelly Faris added 18 points and 12 rebounds to help No. 3 Connecticut beat No. 4 Duke 79-49 in a women’s basketball game on Monday night, handing the Blue Devils their first loss of the season.

Duke was the last unbeaten team in men’s or women’s Division I basketball.

The last time the Blue Devils came up to Connecticut two years ago they were also unbeaten and the Huskies had one loss.

UConn won that game 87-51.

For 20 minutes the Blue Devils hung tough with UConn. That quickly changed in the second half. UConn (17-1) held a two-point lead at halftime and jumped right out on Duke in the second half. After trading baskets, the Huskies scored 20 of the next 25 points to take over.

The Blue Devils (16-1) never could recover.

With the victory, UConn kept alive its streak of 20 years without consecutive home losses at Gampel Pavilion.

This was the first game played on campus since UConn lost to Notre Dame by a point back on Jan. 5.

(8) PENN STATE 59, (23) MICHIGAN 49: Maggie Lucas scored 19 points and Alex Bentley added 16 as Penn State (15-2, 5-0 Big Ten) took over sole possession of first place in the conference with a win at Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Nittany Lions and Wolverines (15-3, 4-1) were the only teams in the league without a conference loss. Michigan kept it close before Penn State went on a late 12-0 run.

 

SAINT JOSEPH’S 71, JOHNSON & WALES 61: Morgan Cahill scored 14 of her 12 points in the second half and also pulled down 10 rebounds as the Monks (10-7, 4-2) rallied from a 31-27 halftime deficit against the Wildcats (5-11, 2-3) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game at Standish.

Danyelle Shufelt chipped in with 12 points and Lindsay Moore added 11 for the Monks, who took the lead for good with a 12-2 run to open the second half.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

SAINT JOSEPH’S 49, JOHNSON & WALES 41: Nicholas Jobin had 13 points and nine rebounds while Matthew Medeiros added 12 points for the Monks (10-6, 6-4) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference win over Johnson & Wales (9-8, 8-2) at Standish.

 

(3) SYRACUSE 57, (21) CINCINNATI 55: C.J. Fair tipped in the go-ahead basket with 19.4 seconds left as the Orange (18-1, 6-0 Big East) rallied for a win at home.

Trailing by seven with just over 5 minutes left, Syracuse tied it at 55 on Michael Carter-Williams’ 3-pointer from the top of the key with 80 seconds left.

Fair’s tip came after Jerami Grant drove the lane and missed. Cincinnati’s Cashmere Wright missed a 3 from straight on with 2.9 seconds left and the Orange had their 35th straight win at home, the longest active streak in Division I.

The Orange outscored the Bearcats 13-4 in the final minutes.

Syracuse was coming off a 70-68 win at Louisville on Saturday that knocked the Cardinals out of the No. 1 spot in the nation.

 

GEORGETOWN 63, (24) NOTRE DAME 47: Otto Porter scored 19 points to lead the Hoyas (13-4, 3-3 Big East) to a win at South Bend, Ind. — the third loss in four games for the Irish (15-4, 3-3).
