Boys’ hockey season winds down
Yarmouth’s boys’ hockey team is surging at the optimal time. The Clippers, who started the season 1-6, improved to 0-1-1 in their last 11 contests by downing visiting Greely (4-0), host York (5-4, in overtime) and host Gorham (1-0) last week and visiting Camden Hills (1-0) Monday to finish the regular season 10-7-1. Four different players scored against the Rangers. Walter Conrad had a hat trick and Patrick Grant scored in OT against the Wildcats. Sam Rouda had the goal against the Rams. Brian Travers had the winner against the Windjammers. Yarmouth was second in the Western Class B Heal Points standings at press time and was guaranteed a home quarterfinal. Greely needed some magic to extend its postseason streak to 15 years. The Rangers fell to 2-13-1 after losses last week at Yarmouth (4-0), Gorham (4-1) and Biddeford (1-0). Greely (eighth in Western B, where only seven teams qualify for the playoffs) had a makeup game versus visiting Camden Hills and a home tilt versus Maranacook to close the year). Two-time defending Class A champion Falmouth was still atop the Heals at 12-5 after a 2-1 loss at Scarborough last week. The Yachtsmen close at Thornton Academy Thursday.
