Portland resident Tim Myers prepares to enter the water after sunset Monday, Sept. 22, at Higgins Beach in Scarborough to catch the last waves of the summer during the dwindling light. The autumnal equinox occurred later that night at 10:29 p.m. Two days of strong winds on Sunday and Monday created rough conditions with waves nearing 6 feet. The water and air temperatures were both in the low 60s.
