HARPSWELL — Herman N. Brown, 75, of West Cundy’s Point, died Aug. 23 at Mid Coast Hospital, with friends and family at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Phippsburg on Feb. 20, 1939, the son of Raymond C. and Elsie E. Smith Brown. He graduated from Morse High School.
Brown was an accomplished industrial draftsman, and designed water systems for Maine companies such as Bath Iron Works and Wright-Pierce. His work also took him to destinations such as Colorado, Louisiana and Washington.
But his first love was lobstering and life on the sea. Brown began lobstering at age 10, and his rugged little boat, Gail Warning, was a familiar sight on the waters around Cundy’s Harbor and the islands of Harpswell.
Brown was a member of the West Point Community Church, in Phippsburg.
He is survived by his mother, Elsie E. Brown, of Brunswick; the love of his life, Claudette Minnicozi, of West Cundy’s Point; three sisters, Juanita Hersom, of Brunswick, Joanne Brown, of Cundy’s Harbor, and Mary Ellen Saunders and her husband, Charles, of Cundy’s Harbor; several nieces, nephews and countless friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Cundy’s Harbor Church of the Nazarene. Memorial contributions may be made to Pine Grove Community Church, P.O. Box 156, Sebasco Estates, ME 04565.
