CUMBERLAND — Five people are running for three open seats on the School Administrative District 51 Board of Directors.
Two incumbent town councilors, meanwhile, will be unopposed in the June 10 election.
The deadline for filing nomination papers was Monday, April 28.
One of the School Board vacancies was created when Bob Vail decided not to seek re-election after 15 years on the board.
“I’ve been there long enough,” Vail said Tuesday. “I would regret that there is not enough institutional knowledge to carry forward. … That institutional knowledge, I think, is so important to have.”
Members John Simpson and Pete Wilson – appointed by the Town Council in July 2013 for one-year terms after co-Chairmen Jeff Porter and Bill Richards resigned – are running again.
Tim Ferris of Turnberry Drive, who also sought appointment by the council last year, will also be on the School Board ballot, along with Vicki Bell of Willow Lane and Leo Paquin of Old Colony Lane.
Bell and Ferris are running to fill the final year of Porter’s term. Simpson, Wilson and Paquin are competing for full three-year terms.
Councilors Tom Gruber and Bill Stiles are unopposed for re-election to the Town Council.
