BRUNSWICK — Jean Wolkens, a former Topsham Board of Selectmen candidate who was charged with operating under the influence four days before the election earlier this month, was charged with OUI again Monday in a separate incident.

Wolkens, 43, of Meadow Road, Topsham, was arrested early in the afternoon at the Wal-Mart on Tibbetts Drive.

Sgt. Russ Wrede said Wolkens was reportedly seen falling before getting into her vehicle, and then backed her car up onto another vehicle. He said the property damage was minor and non-reportable.

Wolkens was arrested after she failed a sobriety test, Wrede said.

She was previously charged in connection with a motor vehicle accident the evening of Dec. 16, 2012, where she allegedly drove into a tree off Meadow Road in Topsham in snowy conditions.

Wolkens was issued a summons Jan. 11 after police said testing revealed her blood alcohol content at the time of the accident was 0.22 percent, or nearly three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

Wolkens, a Republican who ran unsuccessfully last November to represent House District 60 in the Legislature, did not publicly acknowledge the accident or summons until she was questioned as she greeted voters outside the polls on Jan. 15 at the Topsham Fairgrounds. She finished last in the three-way special election.

Her blood alcohol level in Monday’s incident was not immediately available from the Brunswick Police Department.

Wolkens is scheduled to appear in West Bath District Court on March 12 on the Topsham charge. She is to appear there one week later on the Brunswick charge.
