FREEPORT — On Jan. 5, Linda Marie Hipsher Newth Casey, 66, of Freeport, died peacefully at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick after a long illness. Her friends and family were at her side.

Casey was born May 7, 1946, on Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, to Capt. Charles Warren Hipsher and Phyllis Casey McKeough.

She graduated in 1964 from Deering High School in Portland and in 1968 from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. A certified rehabilitation registered nurse, she worked for many years at several facilities in the Portland area and provided private care for a former Maine governor.

Casey was an avid reader and crafter and was working on an online jewelry enterprise before her death. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and was devoted to her three dogs.

She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Mary Elizabeth Hipsher; her stepfather, Philip McKeough; and her in-laws, Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence M. Newth.

She is survived by her brother, Stephen Hipsher and his wife Sally; sons Lawrence M. Newth III and his wife Kelley of New York, and Philip M Newth and his wife Tracie of Maine. She is also survived by her nephews, Benjamin J. Hipsher of California, and Robert S. Hipsher of Portland, and her grandchildren, Alex, Abby, Owen and Delaney Newth.

A memorial service was held Jan. 11 for Casey at A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services in Portland.
