SOUTH PORTLAND — In response to the Dec. 14 shootings in Newtown, Conn., police are reminding the public they will accept any “unwanted, forgotten or unsafe” firearms and ammunition.
Police Lt. Frank Clark said the department accepts firearms and ammunition with no questions asked in the hopes of eliminating access by “untrained or inappropriate persons.”
Clark said firearms and ammunition turned in will be destroyed. For more information about turning in a firearm or ammunition, call the Community Response Unit at 799-5511, ext. 7236 or ext. 7242.
