Of the 50 years I worked in the medical field, the hardest were the years where the physician listened to, and treated seniors. Not because of their physical challenges, but when it came time for them to give up their cars, to become dependent of their children, or friends. It took such an emotional toil on them, their children, and the doctor who had to explain why they should make this sacrifice.
Those living near public transportation saw the transition hard, but when it was pointed out they could still be independent they rose to the occasion.
Falmouth is in such a position now: Permanent public transportation for seniors, allowing them to go shopping, go to the library, and to the Maine Medical Center facility.
Please, don’t give up this opportunity. Vote no to keep the bus; let those of us who need independence now have it.
