Competitors tear into their targets during the Great Maine Lobster Eating Contest at the fourth annual Portland Lobster Fest on Saturday, June 30, on the Maine State Pier. The one-day event, which featured food, music and other entertainment, was a benefit for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program and the Falmouth Rotary charities.With U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe applauding in the background, competitors in the lobster-eating contest take their bows while the results are being tallied. The winner was Ben Floyd, 23, left, of Windham, who consumed 11 crustaceans in 10 minutes.
