As if one swipe of a hurricane isn’t enough, the National Weather Service in Gray says a severe thunderstorm hitting midcoast and central Maine could generate hail and lightening.
The weather service said at 10:30 a.m. that radar showed a strong thunderstorm 10 miles southeast of Popham Beach State Park, moving north at 50 mph. By 11 a.m., the storm was hitting parts of Kennebec County.
The storm is likely to carry heavy downpours, excessive cloud to ground lightning, winds gusting to 60 mph and hail almost an inch a cross, the weather service said.
