BRUNSWICK — Salvatore Joseph Sciascia, 89, died Oct. 17 at Mid Coast Senior Health Care in Brunswick.

Sciascia was born in New York, N.Y. on July 9, 1922, the son of Salvatore G. and Marion (Vionito) Sciascia.

He served in the United States Air Corp. during World War II and retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service. He later studied oil painting with Coulton Waugh in New York and at the Maine College of Art in Portland.

He was predeceased by his brother Adam S. Sciascia and sister Rose Gervasi.

He is survived by two sons, Michael C. Sciascia and his wife Nancy Falk of Livermore, Calif. and Andrew D. Sciascia of Wiscasset; two daughters, Deborah G. Sciascia and her husband Jay d. Matthes of Coronado, Calif. and Cathy M. Matero and her husband David S. of Bath; two brothers, Andrew S. Sciascia and his wife Hannah of Stafford, Va. and Joseph S. Sciascia and his wife Rosemarie of Swartzwood, N.J.; one sister, Jenny Apostola of Swartzwood, N.J.; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
