SOUTH PORTLAND — The City Council on Monday accepted a nearly $340,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security.
Most of the money will be used to purchase public safety equipment, high school security cameras and pass cards, communications equipment, and training. The remaining $90,000 will be used to pay the salary and benefits of the deputy fire chief, who is responsible for emergency planning in the city.
The city has received about $300,000 a year in Homeland Security funding since 2007.
