FALMOUTH — Police charged four teenagers in connection with the theft of approximately 40 street and construction signs in town.
Police Lt. John Kilbride said several of the stolen signs were dumped at night at the Public Works Department after an article about the thefts appeared in The Forecaster in early September.
“It was caught on video, which led us to a suspect,” Kilbride said. “He confessed and led us to the three others.”
Kilbride said police were able to recover between 30 and 40 signs, some of which were salvageable, from a “party hut” behind one suspect’s home. Other signs were destroyed when the boys allegedly removed them from the sign posts.
Kilbride said the court has been asked to order the boys, all 16 or 17 years old, to pay restitution of up to $4,000.
