The two-time state champion wrestlers from Massabesic earned an eighth place finish at the New England Wrestling Championships in Lowell, Mass. this weekend. The Eon brothers, Josh and Joey earned 38 points in the meet.

Josh Eon made it all the way to the finals at 171 pounds where he fell to Robert Hamlin, 5-4. Eon began with a win over Colm Sullivan of Lowell, Mass. by a pin at 4:57. In his second bout, Eon earned another win by pin at 4:35 over Nick Colace of Franklin, Mass.

Eon earned his spot in the 171-pound finals with another pin. This one came at 4:14 against Cody Griswold of New Milford, Conn. In the final, Hamlin squeaked by with a one-point win to earn the New England championship.

At 140 pounds, Joey Eon finished fourth. He won his first bout 6-1 over Joe Simone of North Providence, R.I. In the next round, he fell to Evan Connors of Lowell.

In the consolation bracket, Eon defeated John Meadows of Concord, New Hampshire, 3-1. Then it was a win over CJ Satti of Ledyard, Conn., 4-1. Eon advanced to the finals by forfeit, but fell to Matt Parisi of Vermont, 4-2.

Cape Elizabeth’s Nate Lavallee advanced to the finals of the 285-pound bracket where he fell 5-2 to Brian Nicoll of Timberlane, N.H.

Lavallee won his first match, 9-2 over Rutland, Vt.’s Matt Therriault. Lavallee then defeated Tim Chambers of Bristol, Conn., by a pin at 4:26. Lavallee earned his spot in the final with a 3-2 win over Rich Wapeni of Massachusetts.

Sanford’s Zach Clarke earned a spot at the New England Championships at 125 pounds. He lost his first bout, 4-3 to Kyle Sallient of Rhode Island.

Bonny Eagle’s Steve Martin fell to Mike Bellagamba of New Milford, Conn., at 152 pounds, by a score of 10-2.
