Birthday

Barbara Muir celebrates her birthday today. She is going to celebrate with her husband, Bob, and her pets. Her birthday meal will include lobster, homemade ice cream and cake.

Teaching

Carol Lovely Belyea is teaching English at the University of Taipei for eight weeks. There are also other local people who went to Taiwan to teach in this same program.

Convention

The National Holstein Convention held a show at Pineland June 23-29. They had been touring dairy farms in Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. There were 12 farms representative of New England. There was a clambake for them on June 27 and 1,500 people attended. They also held a cattle sale at the Juniper Farms in Gray. Windham’s Clayton Haskell furnished all the bedding and feed for the show.

Veterans

Mr. Robin Shepard, the State of Maine Veteran’s Advocate, will be available from 9-11 a.m. at the Windham Veterans Center located behind the Windham Mall on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. This is to assist veterans in applying for benefits. The service is free and no appointments are necessary.

Thank You

The pet food donation day collected 90 pounds of dry cat food, donated by the Kennel Shop, seven cans of cat food, eight pounds of dry dog food and one box of dog biscuits. Barbara Muir wants to thank everyone that made a donation and a special thank you to the Kennel Shop. The Windham Food Pantry appreciates getting the pet food.

Ordained

The Reverend Samuel Albert LaCombe, was recently ordained as an elder in the Nazarene denomination. He has spent the last eight years going to college and pastoring several churches here in Maine in order to qualify for ordination. He was ordained March 18, at the Augusta Church of the Nazarene, by Dr. Talmadge Johnson, of Kansas City. This was a great accomplishment for the pastor.

Barbecue

There will be a chicken barbecue July 23, from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Friends Church. This is to benefit the Windham Historical Society. There are only 100 tickets available, the cost is $6.50. They may be purchased from Historical Society members or at the Society on Thursday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at the barbecue.

Museum

The Old Grocery Museum is open Thursday mornings. This is located across from Corsetti’s on Windham Center Road. There are lots of interesting displays of old time tools, furniture, shoemaking equipment, toys, etc.
