The 2015 Southern Maine Cross Country Regionals unfolded at Twin Brook in Cumberland on Saturday, Oct. 24, with Gorham’s Anna Slager winning the girls Class A Race by almost nine seconds over Bonny Eagle standout Kialeigh Marston, herself five and a half seconds ahead of the third place finisher, Serena McKenzie of South Portland.

Of note in the team action: the Bonny Eagle girls finished first by a comfortable margin over Scarborough. Also, the Westbrook boys will be returning to States for the first time in 11 years after an exceptional, fourth-place finish. The Lady Blazes qualified alongside their gentlemen counterparts.

“Just glad to get back to the State meet,” said Westbrook girls head coach Tim Even. “The girls have worked very hard this year, and it was nice to see some of our younger ones step up. They are going to put it all out there next week and see what happens, but getting in was key.”

Even was equally happy for the Blazes boys and their head coach, Claton Conrad. “Nice to see our boys get in for the first time in 11 years! Claton has done an awesome job with that team, and it’s great to see those hard-working boys have success. A great group of kids on both sides for us.”
