Blazes foursome to swim at New Englands

Four Westbrook athletes have been chosen to be part of a team that will represent Maine at Saturday’s 2006 New England Interscholastic Swimming and Diving Championships at Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI. Matt Violette, Jake Wilson, and Ian Oliver, all juniors, and freshman Kyle Goan were selected based on their performances at last month’s Class A state meet. Violette and Wilson will swim two relays and two individual events, Oliver is entered in a pair of relays and Goan will take to the pool for one individual race and two relays.

Little League and Babe Ruth registration

Registration in Westbrook for both Little League and Babe Ruth League baseball will be held in the cafeteria of Wescott Junior High School on consecutive Fridays, March 10 and 17, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and consecutive Saturdays, March 11 and 18, from 9 a.m. to noon. Players must provide birth certificates at the time of registration. Little League registration forms are available in Westbrook schools. All-star season

The SMAA senior all-star basketball games will be held at Deering High School today (March 8), with the girls game starting at 6:00 and the boys tipping off at 7:30. The evening will feature a slam dunk contest and a three-point shoot-out. Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for students. The Western Maine Conference will hold their senior all-star games at Southern Maine Community College on March 14, with the girls on tap for 5:30 and the boys starting at 7:30.
