Gray Sno Wolves Snowmobile Club will be presenting Winterfest 2013 on Saturday, March 2, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Events include a poker run 9 a.m.-noon, radar runs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., fishing derby from legal sunrise to 2 p.m., silent auction, food, bonfire, and snowmobile rides all day. The Good Shepherd Players present A Mystery Dinner Theater Production of “Fishin’ for Trouble (A Whale of a Fatal Tale),” at 6:30 p.m. on Saturdays, March 16 and March 23, at Spring Meadow Country Club in Gray. What’s Cooking

The American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 86 in Gray will hold its monthly Bean Supper at 15 Lewiston Road on Saturday, March 2, from 5 to 6 p.m. On the menu are pea and kidney beans, chop suey, cole slaw, hot dogs, breads and dessert.

The meal costs $8, $15 a couple over 12 years of age; $2.50 for 5 to 12 year olds; under 5 free. Proceeds benefit veterans and their families and children in the area. Any questions, call Nancy True at 657-2661 (cell 653-3886) or Legion at 657-4884.

Science Meeting

The Gray Public Library welcomes Sarah Sparks from University of Maine Cooperative Extension. Sarah will be leading 4-H science meetings on the 4th Wednesday of every month now through May. The meetings will take place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and they are open to youth ages 5-18 (children under 9 will need to be accompanied by an adult). These events are free, and all materials are included. You do not need to be a member of 4-H to attend but space is limited, so please sign up for each session at the circulation desk.

The scheduled topics are: Feb. 27-Design a Wind Powered Boat; March 27-Design a Pinwheel, April 24-Lift a Load Using Wind Power; and May 22-Can Wind Power Produce Electricity?

Transfer Station

The Gray Transfer Station’s staff works hard and keeps an eye out for new people who may need help finding the right location to unload their recyclables. Tours for newcomers are always available, with full explanations of what goes where and why. To help both current and new residents get the most from recycling, new signs and descriptions are being added to the respective areas, so putting your stuff in the right location is quick and easy. New boxes are being built that will contain Gray Recycling Program and the newly developed Transfer Station “Road Map” soon to be accessible inside the Transfer Station. If you haven’t had a chance to stop by Seagull Drive, come and take a look at the new developments to help guide you while inside the transfer station.

Fiddlehead News

Fiddlehead School of Arts and Science, 25 Shaker Road in Gray, was approved by the Maine Charter School Commission to become one of Maine’s first Public Charter Schools and will open, Fall 2013, with 42 students in pre-K, Kindergarten, first and second grade (ages 4- 7). Plans included expansion by one grade level per year culminating with fifth grade. To learn more about Fiddlehead School of Arts and Sciences, attend one of the upcoming open houses on Saturday, March 2 or 9, from 2-3:30 p.m. or Wednesdays, March 6 or 13, from 6-7:30 p.m.

This March see the fifth annual Fiddlehead’s Children’s Theater performance, featuring the production of Annie Junior. Show dates are Saturday, March 16, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; Sunday, March 17, at 2 p.m.; Saturday, March 23, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, March 24, at 2 p.m.

Dancing with

the Staff

The Gray-New Gloucester High School Gym on Libby Hill Road in Gray will be transformed into a ballroom on March 9 for the Patriot’s Parents’ PTO Second Annual Dancing with the Staff competition. Dance couples from schools in the district will be competing for the best dancers title and will try to overthrow last year’s champions, Blaine Skilling and Jill Keith. Dancers from the Studio of the Living Arts will perform during half-time.

The doors open at 5 p.m. and refreshments will be available for purchase. A silent auction will also be featured. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, $20 for VIP tickets (These tickets are limited and VIPs receive a complimentary Patriot Patent logo seat cushion).
