After finally finding a plot on the corner of Falmouth and Woodmont streets in Westbrook, Matt Brunner and his crew of volunteers began planting vegetables last week to benefit the city’s hungry. So far, they have planted green peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, peas, broccoli, carrots and spinach, and expect to add melon and squash, too. Brunner said neighbors have been coming out of their homes to help out. At the beginning of July, he said, the spinach and broccoli should be ready to harvest and dole out to Mission Possible Teen Center and the Westbrook Food Pantry. To donate plants or volunteer to work, e-mail Brunner at captainmatt@mainecharterfishing.com or call 450-3549.
