DI Needs You

The Gray-New Gloucester school district has two Destination Imagination teams advancing to the Global Finals in Tennessee on May 1. These teams earned first place at the state competition, which was held at UMaine-Orono in March. The high school team is coached by Colleen Strickler and composed of one high school student and four middle school students. The middle school team of seven middle-schoolers is coached by Tim Terranova.

From April 5-May 18, an ongoing bottle drive is being held. If you have bottles you would like to donate, please either call coach Strickler at 939-0894 to schedule a pick-up or donate if the DI teams are in your neighborhood collecting or drop them off at any Roopers location in Auburn or Lewiston and mention G-NG Destination Imagination.

On Saturday, April 12, a KFC Fundraiser Dinner at the High School cafeteria at 6 p.m., will be held. You can enjoy a KFC meal, watch performances by G-NG Destination Imagination teams, bid on silent auction items and maybe even take a ride on the hovercraft created by the high school team. The cost is $10 for adults and $8 for students. For tickets, call coach Strickler at 939-0894.

Polar Plunge

The Gray-New Gloucester Patriot Parents PTO’s very first annual Crystal Lake “Ice Out” Polar Plunge will be on Saturday, April 12. This event will benefit the Gray New Gloucester Patriot Parents PTO with a goal to raise $10,000. Participants are encouraged to wear patriotic costumes. Too scared or just too smart? Take the Chicken Dip, just get your feet wet for a great cause.

Donations may be made online, by check, or in cash. Check in at Wilkies Beach, Crystal Lake, Gray, at 11:30 p.m. Bring any non-online pledges with you on event day.

Easter Bunny Schedule

Come to the Market at Pineland Farms, Morse Road, New Gloucester, on Saturday, April 12 (rain date: Sunday, April 13) to kick off the annual kids’ Easter Egg Hunt (in conjunction with Gray Parks and Recreation) with a special pre-hunt appearance by the Easter Bunny. Games, face painting and other activities start at 9:15 a.m., hunt starts at 10 a.m. sharp so don’t be late or you may miss the egg-hunting fun. An Invitation

Members of the public are welcomed by the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Company and Museum, Gray-New Gloucester Development Corporation, and the town of Gray to attend the Deed Presentation from CMP to the Maine Narrow Gauge on Friday, April 11, at 11:30 a.m.-noon at the Gray Plaza, Portland Road (proposed site of new museum).

Patriots Day

On Monday, April 21, in observance of Patriots Day, the Gray town office, transfer station, public works and library will be closed.

More DVDs

Have you stopped by to check out the new library? They are all moved in and thank everyone for your patience and understanding during the past year. With the new addition, they have made minor adjustments that they think you will be very happy with.

One new offering is all TV series DVDs now have a three-week loan period. You can take out two seasons per card and the series do not count against your five DVD total. That means that you can check out five movies for one week and two TV series for three weeks. Come on in and check out some great shows like “Midsummer Murders,” “Doc Martin,” and “Sons of Anarchy.” They have also expanded the children’s movie section and have moved family favorites such as “Ice Age” and “Happy Feet” from the regular DVD collection over to the kids’ area to make browsing easier.

Spring Clean-up

On Friday, April 25, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27, 7 a.m.-3 p.m., you can bring to the Gray Transfer Station for free: Carpeting mattresses and box springs, sofas, chairs, loveseats, televisions, computer monitors, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifier, branches and yard waste (limited to the equivalent of one pickup load), tires (limited to four passenger size only – $2 each additional, $4 each additional on rim), automobile batteries, one pickup truck-sized load each of branches and yard waste; usual disposal fees apply on additional loads.

Wood waste, construction debris, and demolition material are charged at their usual price. Stoves, washers, dryers, water heaters, and dishwashers are always accepted at no cost. Be sure to take advantage of this opportunity to dispose of unwanted materials.

All vehicles must have a valid 2014 transfer station permit, strictly enforced. Contact the Gray Transfer Station at 657-2343 or www.graymaine.org for more information.

Benefit Golf

Sunday, May 4, is the date for the 12th Annual G-NG Baseball/Softball Golf tournament fundraiser to be held at Spring Meadows Golf Club, 59 Lewiston Road, Gray, at 1 p.m. Golfers can sign up individually for an 18-hole round of golf including cart, dinner and prizes for $85 or they can work to form a team of four golfers for $300 (a savings of $10 per golfer). Each golfer will also receive an additional free round of golf. Golfers will be teamed together in groups of four, if not already in a team. The event will follow a shotgun start in a scramble format with one team score. Dinner and awards will be held at 5:30 p.m. Prizes will be given for first place gross (four $35 gift cards), first place net (four $30 gift cards), second place net (four $25 gift cards), longest putt (one $20 gift card) and closest to the pin (one $20 gift card).
