Readiness reaches out, forms partnership

Readiness Associates, a Portland-based consulting business that focuses on helping organizations better prepare for and recover from natural and man-made disasters, announced that it is forming strategic partnerships with a pair of organizations.

“RA’s strength is in our network and experience,” said spokesperson Donna Stevens. “We focus on customized workplace training, preparation, prevention, response, and more.”

To strengthen those focus areas and further expand its reach, RA has teamed with the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality of McKinney, Texas, and  Jaxon Mattison Consulting of North Charleston, South Carolina.

Recognition 

William H. “Bill” Dale, of South Portland, who is of counsel at Jensen Baird Gardner & Henry in Portland, was named the Best Lawyers 2019 “Lawyer of the Year” for his work in litigation-municipal law in the Portland area. Only a single lawyer in each practice area and designated metropolitan area is honored as the “Lawyer of the Year,” and receiving the designation reflects the high level of respect a lawyer has earned among other leading lawyers in the same communities and same practice areas. 

The Portland Water District was recently awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association. The certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The Tru Brit Realty Group of Saxby, Meek & Coward at Keller Williams Realty in Portland saw total sales last year surpass $130 million since the group was formed in 2013. The group again ranked in the agency’s prestigious Platinum Award-winning bracket.

The town of Durham is seeking nominations for the annual Spirit of America Award. Presented by the Spirit of America Foundation, the award is given in the name of Maine municipalities to local individuals, organizations and projects for commendable community service. Nominations can be dropped off at the Town Office during regular office hours by March 8. The award will be presented at Durham’s Town Meeting on April 6. Hires, promotions, appointments

Sevee & Maher Engineers in Cumberland has promoted Lisa Jacob, a senior geologist and geophysicist who joined the firm in 2014. She is a Maine-certified geologist with over 20 years of experience in site characterization and remediation, including hazardous waste investigations and remediation of soil, bedrock, and groundwater.

Town & Country Federal Credit Union announced that Lisa Bellefleur has been promoted to vice president of mortgage lending. She replaces Michael Martin, who has been the CU’s Mortgage Services Manager since 2013, and has announced he will retire at the end of March. 

Maine College of Art has appointed Rachel Somerville to the faculty of the Master of Arts in Teaching program, effective in August. Somerville now serves as the art director for the Westbrook School Department and as an instructor at the University of Southern Maine. 

Tim Malisa, Ainsley Gleason and Eben Jose have been promoted to vice president at Spinnaker Trust in Portland. The wealth management firm also promoted Laura Greenstein to portfolio manager. 

Jensen Baird Gardner & Henry has hired Benjamin T. McCall of Portland as a new associate who is a member of the firm’s Government Services and Land Use & Permitting Practice Groups. 

Save the date

Startup Maine presents “Insights from a Founder – Grove Portland,” on Monday, March 11. The happy hour event is being hosted with Grove Collaborative, a company with roots in San Francisco and now Portland, at 123 Middle St. CEO and co-founder Stu Landesburg will share lessons learned along the way and why Portland was chosen as its second headquarters. Grove Collaborative was named the 37th fastest-growing company in the U.S. in the 2018 Inc 5000. The event is free, but registration is requested via Eventbrite.

It was a chilly Valentine’s Day morning, but members of Portland Downtown were feeling warm and fuzzy after presenting a big check to Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine. The donation was made possible by 40 downtown businesses and shoppers who were part of Shop For A Cause Day on Nov. 24.
