It was the opening day of practice Monday for Maine’s high school girls’ hockey teams, and Portland Coach Courtney Rideout gave instructions to her players at Portland Ice Arena. This year’s Portland team includes players from Deering, which disbanded its program.

Raechel Allen, a senior forward, is one of the top players for the Bulldogs. She scored 33 goals last winter and was an All-State selection.
