A big part of the Warriors’ success was the play of junior Hannah Cottis, who broke the school’s single season scoring record with an outstanding 26 goals.
“We originally said we wanted to win at least 10 games and we did do that. We won 10 games this year and only lost six, so that was pretty exciting for us considering we didn’t win any games last year,” Cottis said.
The junior was thrilled to earn a spot in the Wells High School record books.
“It was something that I kind of set a goal for myself at the beginning of the year. I actually set it at 20, and then getting 26 was pretty cool because I beat it even more than I was expecting to,” said Cottis.
The 2017 season was much different than the previous year for the Warriors — and it all started with their mindset.
“All of our attitudes were completely different. We were always pumped and so excited to play. It was really a great year for us,” Cottis said.
One memorable game for Cottis was an impressive 7-1 road win over Poland.
“One that stands out was probably playing Poland when we played them on their field. We just came out really hard,” Cottis recalled. “It was just a really intense game and we really connected as a team and played really well, kept possession and did a really good job.”
The junior standout believes the Warriors can repeat their success in 2018.
“I’m really hoping that we can kind of keep up the momentum and have just another good year like we did this year,” Cottis said.
