Kennebunkport kicked off its 30th Prelude with a tree lighting in Dock Square Friday night.
More than 2,000 people filled the square and listened to the Kennebunk High School Chamber Choir sing before the tree was lit.
Carol Cook, who has worked for the town’s recreation department for 30 years, lit the tree.
The annual holiday celebration in the Kennebunks is held over two weekends. It includes a hat parade today and candlelight caroling at the Franciscan Monastery in Kennebunk tonight.
There will be a visit on Sunday from Santa, who arrives at Arundel Wharf on a lobster boat.
