DOVER, N.H. — The man known as “the Cupid of Chaos” appeared in a New Hampshire court on Friday.
Michael Middleton, 43, whose last known address was Old Orchard Beach, is facing a charge of bigamy in New Hampshire, and is accused of knowingly marrying a woman in New Hampshire while being married to women in Georgia and Alabama.
A warrant went out for Middleton’s arrest when he missed a Feb. 7 court date in Dover, New Hampshire. Middleton was arrested the next day in Franklin County, Ohio, after police received a tip regarding his whereabouts.
Dubbed the “Cupid of Chaos” by the Franklin County Sheriff’s office, Middleton was transported from an Ohio jail to a New Hampshire jail earlier this week to attend a bail hearing on Friday at Strafford Superior Court in Dover.
According to the Stafford County Clerk’s Office, Middleton’s bail was set at $1,000. As of press time on Friday, Middleton was still at Strafford County Jail.
In New Hampshire, bigamy is a Class B felony, with a penalty of 3 ½ to 7 years in prison upon conviction, plus a fine of up to $4,000 and up to five years probation.
Middleton also faces multiple charges in Maine, including domestic violence in 2014, violating a protection order, driving under the influence, driving without a valid license and violating conditions of release.
