The cause of Krista Dittmeyer’s death remained uncertain Thursday after an autopsy by the New Hampshire Medical Examiner’s Office.

The examination was completed, but authorities are awaiting results of toxicology reports before they determine the cause of her death, said Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane Young.

Young made the announcement outside the police station in Conway, N.H., at a media briefing that did not provide further information about the investigation.

Dittmeyer’s body was found Wednesday in a small pond at the Cranmore Mountain Resort. She had been missing since about 6:30 a.m. Saturday, when a passer-by noticed her car in the resort’s parking lot with its engine running and warning lights flashing. In the car was Dittmeyer’s 14-month-old daughter, who was in good health.

Young would not comment on a report that two men were in the woods at the resort on Tuesday night, a few hours before police began searching the pond.

The Conway Daily Sun, citing the local police log, reported that Richard Acker, 28, and Corey Poland, 25, were stopped by a patrolman at 11:52 p.m. Tuesday. Acker is the brother of Kyle Acker, 26, who was Dittmeyer’s boyfriend and is the father of her daughter.

Kyle Acker is serving a two-year prison sentence in Maine for drug trafficking.

The newspaper reported that the police log indicated the men told the officer they were Dittmeyer’s friends and were looking for her.

Conway police would not discuss the log item and referred questions to the state Attorney General’s Office, which took over communications in the Dittmeyer case Wednesday.
