She was born March 31, 1945 to Timothy and Vivian Dwyer of Bangor, Maine.
She attended John Bapst High School in Bangor and graduated from Saint Joseph’s College in Standish, Maine in 1967.
In 1970 she met the love of her life Philip LaPorte. They married the same year on Christmas Day residing in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. They had one daughter together, Monique LaPorte Haigis; and their biggest joy, their granddaughter, Meaghan L Haigis.
In 1967 she began what would be a lifelong career primarily as a middle school teacher. Teaching was a passion for her. She taught at Saint Joseph’s School in Biddeford, Maine (later named Saint James) until 2002. In 2002 she and Phil moved to Florida to be closer to their daughter Monique, son-in-law Russell, and granddaughter Meaghan. She was quickly hired as a teacher at St. Francis Xavier Catholic School in Fort Myers. There she continued to teach middle school until a few days prior to her death. Each and every student for over 50 years was special to her; she never considered any as just another student. Seeing each one succeed was a priority to her. She loved her job as an educator so much that each year when the topic of retirement came up she would say “one more year.”
Angela was a very compassionate woman caring for so many. She always looked to fill any need she could. She will be deeply missed by so many.
There will be a memorial mass held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017 at St. John XIII, 13060 Palomino Lane, Fort Myers, FL 33912.
Further arrangements will be made for funeral and burial in Maine.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks to carry on a tradition that Phil and Angela always loved to do this time of year – help a child in need have a nice Christmas.
