PORTLAND — Alcohol is suspected as a factor in a crash that shut down Brighton Avenue near Capisic Street for almost 90 minutes tonight.
Lt. Gary Hutcheson said a Pontiac Sunfire operated by 27-year-old Stephanie Fitzgerald of South Portland was attempting to pass a Pontiac sports utility vehicle driven by 21-year-old Nathan Butler of Windham when her car hit his vehicle in the rear bumper and flipped over.
Hutcheson said Fitzgerald was given a blood alcohol test but has not been charged. Firefighters had to pull her out of her car.
Fitzgerald was transported by ambulance to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Butler was not hurt
The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. Hutcheson said traffic was detoured onto side streets.
