SOUTH BERWICK — Jake Lebel hit a three-run homer in the third and Max McCoomb added a two-run homer in the fourth as Staples Crossing Post 188 claimed the first of two victories with a 7-5 win over Bonanza of Sanford in American Legion action at.

Alex McLean was credited with the win. He pitched four innings allowing three hits, two walks and one earned run, while striking out three.

Staples Crossing (13-0) won the second game, 6-4, after McCoomb belted an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth and scored an insurance run on an error.

LIBBY MITCHELL, STANDISH POST SPLIT: Alex Lacognata pitched a complete game to help Libby-Mitchell secure a 10-3 win in the first game of an American Legion doubleheader with host Standish Post 128.

Libby Mitchell scored six runs on four hits and two walks in the first inning and held on for the win. Lacognata struck out one, walked two and surrendered six hits.

Standish Post rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 7-6 victory in the nightcap. Matt Bridges drove in the tying run, and Dana McKay’s one-out RBI single scored Brady Anderson to end the game.

Winning pitcher Max Salevsky lasted all seven innings, giving up seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

JUNIOR LEGION

LIBBY-MITCHELL, FAYETTE-STAPLES SPLIT: Adam Gibbons had four hits, including a double and a home run, and Ian KcKenna hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Fayette-Staples (4-10) to an 8-7 win over Libby-Mitchell (4-10) in the opener of a doubleheader at Saco.

Chase Wescott struck out nine batters and gave up three hits over 52/3 innings for Fayette-Staples. After he left the game Libby-Mitchell rallied to take a 7-6 lead on a two-run triple by Jacob Gardiner.

In the second game, Alex Giles hit a go-ahead RBI double in the top of the seventh to lift Libby-Mitchell to a 13-12 victory. Adam Gibbons hit three doubles to pace Fayette-Staples.
