LEWISTON — Molly Brown hit a jumper with 7 seconds left in regulation to lead Bates to a 61-60 women’s basketball victory over the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday night.
Brown’s basket gave Bates (5-2) the lead for the first time since early in the first half. Bates trailed 41-24 with 17:16 remaining before its furious comeback.
Brown scored a game-high 27 points and had 11 rebounds. Kristin Calvo added 13 points.
Megan Pelletier led the way for the Huskies (2-2) with 15 points.
UMAINE-AUGUSTA 64, SOUTHERN MAINE CC 61: Jamie Plummer led the way with 31 points and 18 rebounds as the Moose (5-3, 1-1 YSCC) beat the Seawolves (5-4, 3-1) in Augusta.
COLBY 92, THOMAS 28: Carylanne Wolfington had 19 points off the bench to lead five players in double figures as the Mules (4-0) handled the Terriers (0-3) in Waterville.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
BATES 56, SOUTHERN MAINE 47: Malcolm and Marcus Delpeche each scored 12 points to lead the Bobcats (3-0) past the Huskies (1-2) in Lewiston.
Malcolm Delpeche had a team-high 12 rebounds
COLBY 103, THOMAS 68: Chris Hudnut was 8 of 10 from the floor and had a game-high 25 points as the Mules (4-1) defeated the Terriers (1-5) in Waterville.
BOWDOIN 67, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 48: Keegan Pieri had 22 points and seven rebounds as the Polar Bears (4-0) eased past the Nor’easters (1-3) in Biddeford.
SOUTHERN MAINE CC 89, UM-AUGUSTA 76: Atencio Martin scored 25 points with 12 rebounds and the Seawolves (8-1, 4-0 YSCC) closed with a 13-0 run against the Moose (1-7, 1-2) in Augusta.
WOMEN’S HOCKEY
BOWDOIN 2, UMASS-BOSTON 2: Ariana Bourque scored a power-play goal with assists from Maddie Baird and Marne Gallant 2:39 into the third period as the Polar Bears (2-0-1) salvaged a tie against the Beacons (5-1-3) in Brunswick.
Maureen Greason scored in the first period for Bowdoin. UMass-Boston countered with second-period goals by Jane Morrisette and Jenny Currie.
COLBY 3, SOUTHERN MAINE 2: The Mules (1-4-0) scored three unanswered goals to come from behind and get their first win on the season, beating the Huskies (2-4-1) in Gorham.
Cassandra Sherman scored a pair of goals, one in each of the first two periods, to stake Southern Maine to a 2-0 lead. Bella Papapetro scored at the 12:04 of the second period to start the comeback.
Maddie Dewhirst scored the tying goal on the power play at 9:36 of the final period. Elisa Rascia scored the winner 1:17 later.
MEN’S HOCKEY
BOWDOIN 3, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 0: Alec Root and Danny Palumbo each scored first-period goals as the Polar Bears (4-0-1) shut out the Nor’easters (3-4-0) in Biddeford.
Connor Quinn added an insurance goal from Mitch Barrington and John McGinnis early in the third period.
Max Fenkell stopped 24 shots in the shutout. Mason Riley made 26 saves for UNE.
SALEM STATE 4, SOUTHERN MAINE 3: The Vikings (3-2) scored three goals in the first period and held on to beat the Huskies (1-6) in Salem, Massachusetts.
Alex Pantalone scored in the second period, and Zach Dymock and Cole Sonstebo added third-period goals for USM.
