Three-run homer in bottom of 10th inning sends Maine Maritime past Colby in softball
Nicole Poland cracked a three-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning Monday to lift Maine Maritime to a 6-4 softball win over Colby at Castine.
The Mariners (9-1) overcame two extra-inning deficits. Alyssa Lepore’s sacrifice fly put the Mules (2-10) ahead 3-2 in the ninth, but Poland scored on an error in the bottom half. Colby went ahead again on an RBI triple by Linda Peterson in the 10th.
The Mules led 2-1 going into the bottom of the seventh, but Megan Russell scored on an error to send it to extra innings.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE: Danielle Cate scored four goals as the University of New England (7-1, 5-0 Commonwealth Coast) extended its winning streak to six with a 15-13 victory over Curry (6-3, 3-2) at Biddeford.
Liz DeGrandpre and Jenna Barton each had three goals for the Nor’easters.
MEN’S LACROSSE: Evan Hammersley had five goals and two assists to help Curry (7-3, 4-1 Commonwealth Coast) to a 12-8 win over UNE (4-6, 1-4) at Biddeford.
Tyler Thomas had four goals and two assists for the Nor’easters. Michael Woods added a goal and four assists.
