So last Tuesday morning, a grandmother takes her 2-year-old granddaughter to the Maine State Museum.
James Cavallaro, a 58-year-old man who was already free on bail on charges of aggravated assault, domestic violence assault with prior convictions and terrorizing, tries to steal this 2-year-old from her grandmother. He almost gets away. If not for the quick actions of museum staff, the child may not have ever have been seen alive again.
The man is arrested. A judge sets bail at $1,000 cash, and Cavallaro’s next hearing is scheduled for Jan. 13 in Augusta District Court.
The judge needs to have his or her head examined. This man does not belong on the street at all, and if that wasn’t clear from up on the bench, maybe it’s time for that judge to step down. Let’s hope someone is paying attention to this flagrant disregard for public safety and considers removing this judge from his or her post.
How long are we going to tolerate a broken justice system that fails to protect the people?
Is Gov. LePage paying attention to this? This happened right up the street from him. He should do something about it.
