Portland wants residents to come up with a plan for what to do with a shuttered 1920s school building it owns.
Portland took ownership of the 1926-built Reed School building on Homestead Avenue from the city school district in June. The building most recently served as a central kitchen and warehouse for the district. A city spokeswoman says Portland is seeking the opinions of residents about how the building can best be utilized. A public meeting about the building’s reuse is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Riverton Elementary School.
The red-brick school building added a story in 1950 and a service and storage addition in 1981.
