Red Claws’ Frazier signs 10-day contract with 76ers
Maine Red Claws point guard Tim Frazier signed a second 10-day contract with the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday. During his previous 10-day contract Frazier appeared in three games for the 76ers and averaged 5.0 points, 8.7 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game.
Frazier is averaging 15.7 points, 9.0 assists, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in 28 games with the Red Claws this season.
To fill the opening on their roster, the Red Claws acquired guard Chaz Williams, a former UMass player now playing overseas in Turkey.
GOLF
PGA: Retief Goosen rolled in a 30-foot birdie putt on his final hole in the Northern Trust Open to wind up in a spot he hasn’t been in a long time – atop the leaderboard going into the weekend at Los Angeles.
The late birdie gave Goosen a 1-under 70 and a one-shot lead over Ryan Moore, Graham DeLaet and 21-year-old rookie Justin Thomas.
LADIES EUROPEAN TOUR: No. 1-ranked Lydia Ko of New Zealand took a share of the second-round lead with South Korea’s Jang Ha-na and Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand in the Women’s Australian Open at Melbourne, Australia.
The 17-year-old South Korean-born Ko, playing her second tournament since becoming the youngest golfer, male or female, to earn the top ranking, shot a three-under 70.
American Jessica Korda, the 2012 champion at Royal Melbourne, shot 71 and was in fifth place, three strokes off the lead
SKIING
WORLD CUP: Max Franz and two of his Austrian teammates, Georg Streitberger and Vincent Kriechmayr dominated the final training session at Saalback-Hinterflemm, Austria. Franz clocked 1 minute, 49.41 seconds for a 0.54-second win over Streitberger.
BOXING
LONG-AWAITED BOUT: It took more than half a decade to make the fight of a generation, but at long last, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao have signed to fight each other.
Mayweather (47-0, 26 knockouts) and his longtime pound-for-pound rival Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) are scheduled to fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 2.
TENNIS
DUBAI TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS: Top-seeded Simona Halep beat Caroline Wozniacki 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 to reach the final at Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Halep will face 17th-seeded Karolina Pliskova in Saturday’s final.
RIO OPEN:Top-seeded Sara Errani of Italy reached the semifinals at Rio de Janeiro after Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil retired in the third set.
Errani will face No. 5 Johanna Larsson of Sweden, who defeated Dinah Pfizenmaier of Germany 6-4, 6-0.

JURISPRUDENCE: A recreational soccer player who delivered one punch to a referee that killed the man pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in a deal with prosecutors that calls for him to serve up to 15 years in prison. Bassel Saad, 36, is not a U.S. citizen so might also be deported.
CYCLING
TRACK CYCLING WORLDS: Frenchman Francois Pervis successfully defended his 1-kilometer time trial title to claim a second gold medal in as many days at Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France.
