AUGUSTA – Maine lawmakers are applauding the contributions of the state’s Franco-American community.
Wednesday was the 14th annual Franco-American Day at the Statehouse.
The national anthems of the U.S., France and Canada were performed as lawmakers began their work. Crepes and traditional French-Canadian meat pies were served in the Capitol complex’s cafeteria.
Franco-American organizations also put up displays in the Statehouse’s Hall of Flags, where lawmakers and visitors were serenaded by Canadian and Franco-American music.
Democratic Rep. John Martin of Eagle Lake said the annual event is a great opportunity to recognize all that the Franco-American community has contributed to Maine’s cultural heritage.
