I am very concerned about the proposed zone change requested by developers for the Portland Co. site on Fore Street. If their request is granted, the beautiful panoramic view of Portland Harbor will be forever lost.
We can avoid the loss of this Portland asset by insisting that the height of new development be measured at the flood plain and not on the grade. This is the recommendation in the city’s comprehensive plan, and it should be followed.
I also am concerned about the waterfront trail. I am hoping the city preserves free access to this forever.
Let the development go forth, but let us protect what helps make Portland such a livable city for now and for the generations to come.
