It is unconscionable to think we would allow people in our community to go without food or shelter because they are here as refugees or whatever their legal status.
While it does not surprise me that our governor would take that position, I have wondered why our federal elected officials, Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King, as well as U.S. Reps. Chellie Pingree and Bruce Poliquin, have not come forward. Certainly the federal government should assume some financial responsibility for those who have sought refuge in our country.
