We would all have a better understanding of how much more dangerous the delta variant is if we just called it “COVID-20.”
Forget everything you thought you knew about the original COVID-19; this is a whole different virus. If prior estimates suggested that up to 85 percent of the population needed to be vaccinated to reach herd immunity, with COVID-20, we probably now need 95 percent.
The current surge was entirely predictable and preventable, and it will only get worse if those who haven’t yet changed their behavior stay their course. Those who aren’t vaccinated are heading into super-spreader season – school year, indoors during cold weather, holidays – with no safety net.
But the good news is: I got the shot, and I’ll be fine. Join me.
