SOUTH PORTLAND — The South Portland community came together to distribute a Christmas Day brunch to South Portland Fire Department, police department and regional dispatchers.

The brunch was organized by two community members through the use of the South Portland Community of Kindness Facebook group. Co-organizer and manager of the page, Sari Greene, and co-organizer, Cristin French, shared their idea on several local Facebook groups, and an online app called Meal Train to help designate where the food was going and who would be delivering it.

Greene and French were able to gather more than 50 people in the community to help deliver and prepare the food and snacks. Others in the community jumped in to help cook and deliver hot food and other treats to each department. They also made snack packs for the city bus drivers.

The community also came together to deliver Christmas Eve dinner to first responders.  Many residents didn’t let the bad weather stop them from bringing meals on Christmas Eve; among those were Michelle Horton and her son, Alex, who brought macaroni and cheese and dinner rolls and then delivered an egg casserole and cinnamon rolls for Christmas Day brunch.
