For 25 years, artist Kris Kristiansen and his wife, Marilyn, owned a shop in his native Scotland selling crafts, antiques and handmade items. In 2007, they moved to a seaside home in Cape Elizabeth that’s been in Marilyn’s family for hundreds of years. Kristiansen, unaccustomed to Maine’s bitter, snowy winters, felt cooped up. To keep himself occupied, he took up oil painting, mostly landscapes of Maine and Scotland. “When he gets going in the winter, he paints nonstop, sometimes for 15 hours in the day,” Marilyn said. Kristiansen sells prints of his work at Fort Williams Park.
