SCARBOROUGH — All are welcome to gather at a memorial Mass for Fr. Stephen Concannon on Friday, Aug. 19, at 10 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church on 150 Black Point Road in Scarborough. Fr. Jack Dickinson, pastor of St. John Paul II Parish in Scarborough, will preside at the Mass with Monsignor Charles Murphy, a longtime friend of Fr. Concannon, concelebrating and delivering the homily. A reception with light refreshments will be held in the church hall following the Mass.

Born in Portland in 1939, he graduated from Boston College before beginning clerical studies at St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore. Fr. Concannon was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Daniel J. Feeney on May 16, 1964. During his active ministry, Fr. Concannon served in Rockland, Portland, Gardiner, Kennebunkport, Bridgton, Lewiston, and Brunswick. In 1988, he was named pastor of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish in Scarborough, where he raised over $1 million for the construction of the current church, which opened its doors in 1990. Fr. Concannon also served on the Diocese of Portland’s Tribunal, as secretary to the bishop, and as chairman of the diocese’s 125th anniversary committee.

Fr. Concannon died on June 29 at the age of 83. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Hampton, New Hampshire, with burial at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
